Job Description

Job Title: Pastor
Responsible To: Active Deacon Ministry and Church body
Job Summary: To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, teach biblical revelation, engage in pastoral care ministries, provide administrative leadership in all areas of Church life and supervise the paid staff.

Qualifications: Acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior

College and accredited seminary degree (Master of Divinity) or working toward degree (2-3 years ministry experience preferred)

Called to and ordained to the Pastor ministry and in good standing with the Southern
Baptist Convention.
Knowledgeable and competent in fulfilling congregational ministerial duties
Ability to relate with other clergy, church members, church personnel, and guests
Emotionally able to work closely with others.
Possess warm, compassionate personality to counsel objectively and confidentially.

Responsibilities:

A. Administrative

1. To be present and accessible, an effective communicator.
2. Promote unity in the Church by promoting harmonious relationships and
reconciling relationships within the Church.
3. Abide by Constitution and Bylaws of Concord Baptist Church.
4. Assume responsibility for maintaining accurate records regarding personal work
habits and report same to deacons when requested.
5. Able to handle complainants concerning effectiveness of staff members and
programs.
6. Work with Finance Committee and deacons to establish a budget for
administrative staff, committees, office needs, and other Church needs.
7. Preside at business meetings

B. Committees

1. Serve as ex-officio member on all committees.
2. Work with deacons, Church officers and standing and special committees
as they perform their assigned duties.

C. Denominational Relations

1. Cooperate with associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters
of interest and concern.
2. Keep the Church informed of denominational developments.

D. Discipleship Training

1. Provide training classes or group educational meetings concerning
evangelism, stewardship, spiritual growth, and renewal.
2. Participate in training deacons in the family ministry programs
3. Establish and administer an orientation program for new Church members.

E. Outreach/Evangelism

1. Lead the Church in an effective program of witnessing.
2. Visit prospective members and Church members in home.
3. Represent the Church in civic matters.
4. Lead the Church in a caring ministry for persons in the Church and
Community.
5. Organize outreach, mission trips and community service projects.

F. Pastoral Care

1. Officiate at weddings and funerals
2. Provide spiritual counseling for Church member, personnel and community,
making referrals to other professionals when necessary
3. Visit Church members/friends in health care facilities
4. Visit sick at home
5. Assist families dealing with emotional crisis
6. Maintain confidences

G. Preaching/Worship

1. Coordinate and conduct worship service
2. Prepare and deliver sermons whether it’s expositional messages through books of
the Bible or messages on topics, and explain how God’s Word applies to our lives
today
3. Lead in observance of ordinances on a planned basis
4. Provide the ordinances to Church members/friends in the home or health care
facility
5. Prepare and lead Wednesday night Bible Study
6. Commit to personal and professional development
7. Lead Church members to an active life of prayer
8. Make arrangements for pulpit supply when anticipating absence
*In case of emergency, chairman and vice chairman of deacons shall be
responsible for pulpit supply and for pastor’s administrative duties

H. Program Development

1. Work with staff members to identify missions and goals of Church programs on an
annual basis.
2. At least annually, lead in an assessment of the needs of the Church and its
committees and suggest appropriate plans to improve the effectiveness of the
Church.
3. Provide leadership and vision for Church growth.
4. Encourage and work with other local church pastors and church leaders from
different ethnicities and backgrounds to build the unity and witness of Christ in the
surrounding community.

Compensation:
 
Salaried, full-time position, paid bi-monthly

1. Per calendar year, 2 weeks vacation (2 Sundays and 2 Wednesdays)
2. Per calendar year, eligible for 5 sick days, with one additional day for each year of
service up to a maximum of 10 days per year
3. Since Sunday is a workday, another day during the week may be taken as a day
off, in addition to Saturday
4. The Pastor is also allocated 2 weeks of revival or retreat time, etc., in order to lead
outside events. This time period includes being away for 2 Sundays.
